I Know This Place

I heard someone once say that they had to run a place before they “knew” it. At first I snorted, thinking this was overwrought but today, I compared that pronouncement to my experience during my run through Rancho San Antonio park. Parking is always a hassle so I go in the back way following the Hammond-Snyder loop trail through the power plant to the PG&E trail for an extra 1.5 miles. After 2 years of running the park off and on, I know where the stickers and the pink roses are, where the traffic noise disappears and the family and friends sounds start, where to expect horse manure and when to find deer, and where the “pond” and the bathrooms are. On my way back on the Hammond-Snyder loop trail, I noticed fresh mountain bike tracks. Yes, I know this place.
