Weekly Photo Challenge: Beyond

Driving 70 mph down the highway, I never examined it closely.  On a sleepy Sunday morning I decided to jog by instead with my iPhone set to Hipstamatic, GSquad, C Type-Plate:

Even at this distance, the font didn’t pop out at me, didn’t look special.  I wondered, “Why THAT font for NASA?”

Once home, I examined it a little  more closely for an hour or so:

The serifs look like the Lunar Module landing feet or the rocket engine nozzle extension.  And Wikipedia informed me that this particular logo is not necessarily from an earlier period in history.  It has been in use from 1959-1975 and 1992 to now.
