While we “set the base” in the last entry, that’s just the starting point. Different treatments of the same image can yield radically different meanings.  Experimenting and playing can help discover a possible range of options to chose from.    Even though it makes for a longer post, I’ve made the pictures bigger today so it’s easier to see the differences.

This first series of 4 are all edited in SpookyPic. 

The lightning striking (above) seems like a picture of God and Jesus that many people have but the notebook paper (below) makes it seem as if this fresco scene is a personal letter written to us.

The torn paper makes this fresco seem part of a larger story.

The cracked paper makes the photograph looks as if it is a fresco on the wall.

SpookyPic is quite a fun app that provides a lot of interpretations but it downsizes your images significantly.  This image started at 3MB and after editing is only 948k.

Lo-Mob (for iPhone or Android) is a great app with various old school photographic effects. Keep in mind that we started with a 3MB image and some of the downsizing you see below is from the change in format. Here are a few examples:

There’s something pleasing about this 30s Contact Print from Glass Negative (above).

 There’s some immediacy about this one (above). The emulsion marks look fresh like this is fresh news. You could use the News Emulsion above to convey that this scene of Christ is news.

The AE TTV Saturated (above) does a fantastic job of making this look like a movie!

I’ll continue the experimentation in my next post.  As you can see, there’s almost no end to the alternatives you can generate!  That’s part of the fun.
